From the age of three Monde Schreiner AKA Lucas J; now 24, asked for his own guitar, taking it up seriously as a young teenager, progressing rapidly into a highly skilled guitarist, singer and song-writer.
“I don’t remember a time when I didn’t want to make music, when I didn’t want to play guitar” he says.
While still at school he led the metal band Pariah. 2013 saw him focusing on his solo career , improving his guitar skills and writing songs for his demo CD, Taste for Apathy, which he completed in mid-2015.
Following a trip to the USA to check out the music scene there, he brought together three other musicians to start performing as the band, Indigo Reign.
Indigo himself was featured in the Mail and Guardian as one of four talented young South African musicians. His music drawing from a range of influences that include Thin Lizzy, Black Stone Cherry, AC/DC, Airbourne, Lenny Kravitz, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Al Dimeola and David Bowie.
With his roots carved into rock, Lucas J has spent the past 8 months in LA defining his musical talents in studio – and has returned to SA with a handful of much anticipated songs produced by Mark Dutton (LA Guns) with a slightly more fresh and refined sound with nuances of Gary Clark JNR, Prince and David Bowie.
“When people listen to my music, I’d like them to feel that they are not alone. My music is reflective, introspective, and deals with issues like depression, dark times in your life, turning them into positive things – hope is a big thing in my music. My music is also about love, and about the fact that love is real, not just an imaginary thing.” Lucas J.
Currently in intense rehearsals with his band under the mentorship of Neill Solomon at Passage One Music Studios, gig dates to be confirmed.
